Spotlight on Artists on the Autism Spectrum

In honor of April’s Autism Awareness Month, and to celebrate the release of Drawing Autism, edited by Jill Mullin, Akashic put out a call for art submissions — and you answered!

On May 14th, Jill Mullin will receive the inaugural Felix in Art Award given by Extreme Kids & Crew! For more information on Extreme Kids & Crew’s May Soirée (which will be held at Littlefield in Gowanus, Brooklyn), please click here.

Throughout April, we featured selections of the art that has been submitted to us, all created by people diagnosed with autism. We’re pleased to share last round of art today, provided by Shannon Carr of the Morgan Autism Center in San Jose, CA.

About the Morgan Autism Center, from the Center’s website:

Since 1969, Morgan Autism Center has served as a school and as a resource for families and professional service providers Bay Area-wide. Headquartered in the heart of Silicon Valley, the school program supports students and adults, ages five through 58, who are impacted by autism. The center is a nurturing environment focused on constant program optimization to deliver the greatest opportunities for success as autism rates continue to rise at an alarming rate (one in 50 per the CDC). MAC hosts an annual conference, now in its 12th year and an ongoing lecture series; provides training for law enforcement agencies; hosts international interns; and contracts with more than 30 public school districts. MAC touches the lives of thousands of developmentally disabled persons and counsels their families, educators, medical professionals, and community service providers. Our mission is to help children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities maximize their potential in a dignified, positive and loving environment.

Thanks very much to Shannon and the Morgan Autism Center for sharing this great art with us! You can find out more about MAC by visiting their website or by following them on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vimeo, or on their blog.
