“The Nature of Sacrifice.” A.M. Homes (May We Be Forgiven), Joe Meno (Marvel and a Wonder), and Terry McMillan (Who Asked You?) address family conflict and the many dimensions of sacrifice. A brotherly bond tested by an act of violence and betrayal, a woman taking care of her abandoned grandsons, and a grandfather and grandson reconcile their differences to rescue a horse—a shared object of devotion.
