Since 2003, the James River Writers Conference has attracted award-winning authors and highly regarded editors and agents from around the country to share their wisdom about the craft and business of writing and publishing.

More than 300 people attend this multi-day event, known for its inspiring, collegial atmosphere and Southern hospitality.

Morning Breakout Session: “Queer Literature” featuring Nicole Dennis-Benn, Sarah Glenn Marsh, Alex Sanchez, Patricia A. Smith. Moderator TBD. What is queer literature? How do you create LGBTQ characters that aren’t stereotypes? Our panelists will discuss current trends.

The morning Breakout Session will take place from 10:30 am – 11:30 am and will be in Room E11A.

Afternoon Breakout Session: “Filling Your Creative Well” featuring Gigi Amateau, Brynne Rebele-Henry, Alex Sanchez, Patricia A. Smith. Moderated by Stacy Hawkins Adams. Everyone gets stuck. Our panelists will share what they do to get past the barrier and let the creativity flow. The process won’t be the same for any two writers, but the experiences of others can spark an idea.

The afternoon Breakout Session will take place from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm and will be in Room E10D.
