Theodore Hamm — Brooklyn Book Festival, Brooklyn, NY
American Prognosis: What Does and Does Not Make America Great: What are we to make of this contentious moment in political time and the course of the American republic? In this wide-ranging discussion, muckraking reporter Matt Taibbi (Hate Inc.) explores the media’s dark role in fomenting division and distrust among our populace; sociologist/physician Jonathan M. Metzl (Dying of Whiteness: How the Politics of Racial Resentment is Killing America’s Heartland) looks at how “backlash governance” has led to plummeting health outcomes in America’s heartland; and democracy activist Sayu Bhojwani (People Like Us: The New Wave of Candidates Knocking at Democracy’s Door) shines a hopeful light on the new wave of multiracial candidates storming the electoral gates. Moderated by Theodore Hamm, editor of Frederick Douglass in Brooklyn.
