Spotlight on Artists on the Autism Spectrum
In honor of Autism Awareness Month, and to celebrate the release of Drawing Autism, edited by Jill Mullin, Akashic has put out a call for art submissions — and you have answered!
Throughout April, we’ll be featuring selections of the art that has been submitted to us, all created by people diagnosed with autism. Today, we’re very pleased to feature the art of two artists: Jeremiah Early Joyce and Joss Munson.
Thanks very much to both of them for sharing this great art with us! We’re still accepting submissions; full guidelines can be found here!
In Joss’s words, “This is just a simple drawing I made using fine liner on A5 paper, I didn’t put much thought into it, it just all came out from my hand onto the page. I thought the work was appropriate as it speaks a lot about how I suffer (I don’t like to say suffer as I think it’s a little dramatic to say) in part to do with my autism.”
Jeremiah Early Joyce “finds movie-related art and photographs on the web and crafts the into themed collages” that many people love and enjoy; he very kindly agreed to allow us to feature this collage of Walt Disney!
